December 2007
* The Museum Shop is carrying Jim Thornton's book of old postcards, Greetings
from Steubenville
, for $29.95.
* Historic Fort Steuben is now serving as a collection center for old printer ink
cartridges and cell phones. Your donation of these items will help raise funds for our
daily operations. The cartridges and phones can be dropped off at the Visitor
Center, M-F, from 10-4.
* Historic Fort Steuben will focus on African Americans in the Military for the 2008
Black History Month. Local veterans are invited to submit photos and stories to be
featured in the exhibit.
* Book signing with Wayne Cole was a successful event. Books are still available in
the Museum Shop for $39.95.
* Light Up Night in Steubenville drew hundreds of people to watch the entertainment
and enjoy the free refreshments. Fort Steuben Park is sparkling for the season with
a 20' tree of Christmas Lights as the focal point. Thanks to the Steubenville
Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Steubenville Revitalization Group, the City of
Steubenville Electrical Department, Trinity Health System, Jody and Carolyn Glaub,
and the many volunteers who made it all possible.
* Planning for the Summer Concert Series has begun with major sponsoring by
JPMorgan Chase Bank. The series is scheduled to run from May 29th to July 31st.
* The Museum Shop has a number of small items for stocking stuffers as well as a
variety of books and toys for all ages. The Shop is open Monday through Friday,
from 10 am to 4 pm.
FORT STEUBEN AND THE FORT STEUBEN VISITORS CENTER WILL BE
CLOSED ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24 AND 25 FOR
CHRISTMAS & DECEMBER 31 AND JANUARY 1 FOR THE NEW YEAR.

November 2007
* Another order of engraved bricks have been placed around the Fountain area.
Brick forms are available
here.
* Veterans from around the area gathered at the Berkman Amphitheater on Nov.
11th to commemorate Veterans Day. A wreath was laid at the newly erected flagpole
and memorial plaque honoring those who served their country.
* Historic Fort Steuben, with support from the Ohio Arts Council and the Ohio Arts
Presenters Network, brought the South American Music group Andes Manta to nine
audiences in the Steubenville area. The group presented melodies on 35
instruments, most of them homemade. For photos of the event

* Historic Fort Steuben is closed for the winter but the Visitor Center and Museum
Shop remain open.

October 2007
* The Annual Yard Sale to benefit Historic Fort Steuben will be held on Oct. 5-6.
* The Berkman Amphitheater will be the site for the Oct. 21st performance of the U.
S. Army Jazz Ambassadors. The 19-member ensemble will perform  diverse
repertoire including big band, jazz, Latin, Dixieland, vocals, and patriotic music. The
concert will begin at 2:00 and admission is free. Bringing lawn chairs is
recommended.
* Historic Fort Steuben will welcome over 150 fifth grade students from the
Steubenville City Schools for their annual Fall Field Days.

September 2007
* Historic Fort Steuben is supporting the Steubenville Revitalization Group's
fundraiser for the 4th Street Clinic:
The 4th Street Historical Walk on Saturday,
September 8th.
* Historic Fort Steuben is participating in Macy's charity event: Shop for a Cause.
By purchasing a $5 ticket at the Fort, you can receive a $10 discount coupon as
well as 10-20% off all purchases at the store on October 13th. All ticket holders will
also be eligible for a drawing for a $500 shopping spree. Proceeds from the ticket
sales go to the Fort.
* Celebrate the Constitution! In cooperation with the Fort Steuben Chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolution, Historic Fort Steuben is featuring a display
on America's founding document from September 15-29. Every visitor will have an
opportunity to sign the Constitution (facsimile) and participate in the celebration.

August 2007
* The Summer Concert Series in the Berkman Amphitheater concludes on August
23. The series received much praise and appreciation from the community.
*The Steubenville City Market will continue to be held in Fort Steuben Park. Both
vendors and shoppers enjoy the location.

July 2007
* Historic Fort Steuben hosted a round table discussion with Sen. Sherrod Brown
and a number of local leaders representing health care, business, labor, education
and clergy on Tuesday, July 3.
* The second session of the Summer Youth Program will be underway July 16-20.
Applications can be obtained at the Visitor Center.
* The Summer Concert Series continues and will be extended into August. Check
the Events page for schedules.

June 2007
Among newsworthy activities at the Fort:
* Director Judy Bratten and Board Members Jerry Barilla and Charles Govey
presented Ohio Governor Ted Strickland with a framed, numbered print: Fort
Steuben 1787. The governor announced that he accepted the picture on behalf of
the citizens of Ohio and it would remain in the governor's office in perpetuity.
*The Summer Concert Series which started has been well received with an average
audience of 400-500 people.
* Steubenville's City Market (formerly the Farmers' Market) is now at the Fort
Steuben Park. As produce comes in the number of shoppers will be increasing. So
far, the vendors are pleased with the location.
* The 17th Annual Fort Steuben Festival will open on Friday evening with a concert
by the singing group Friends. Crafters, vendors, and reenactors will provide a
weekend of fun, history, and music for all. See

* The Archaeology Field School under the auspices of Franciscan University of
Steubenville has been underway withing the Fort grounds. Bottles and other
interesting artifacts have been uncovered this summer. Visitors can watch the
process of uncovering the past.
* The Summer Youth Program will begin June 18th.
* The latest order of bricks around the Veterans' Memorial Fountain have been put
in place. Bricks can be ordered for friends or family by using this
application form.

May 2007
School Field Trips and youth outings are available at the Fort.
The annual Fort Steuben Dinner will be held in the Visitor Center on May 23rd.
The fountain is a glorious sight on the beautiful grounds of Fort Steuben Park. The
Richard and Elizabeth King Summer Concert Series will open on May 24th at 6:30
pm with popular singer BE Taylor. All concerts will be free thanks to our sponsors:
WTOV, Trinity Health System, Steubenville Downtown Businesses, David Hindman,
and Studio L. See our events listing for details.
The Steubenville City Market will also open on the grounds on May 24th.

April 2007
Planning and development of exhibits at Historic Fort Steuben is ongoing, along with
Festival plans and the schedule for the Summer Concert Series in the Berkman
Amphitheater. The Fort will reopen for the season on April 28; the fountain will be
turned on at the beginning of May.

March 2007
The exhibit for Black History Month has been extended until March 16, and includes
displays for Women's History Month as well.

February 2007
The Upper Ohio Valley and the Underground Railroad is the theme for Black
History Month at the Fort Steuben Visitors Center this year.  With assistance from
the Jefferson County Historical Association, the exhibit features displays, a slide
show, and an audio program to reveal the bravery and ingenuity of those who
worked to help escaping slaves reach freedom.  The exhibit is open Monday
through Friday from 10am to 4 pm. A special reception and Round Table discussion
will be held on Monday, February 12th, from 3:30 to 5:00 at the Visitors Center.

January 2007
Historic Fort Steuben has been hosting the Steubenville Revitalization Group
meetings. Our commitment to keeping history alive includes historic downtown
Steubenville. We believe that the reconstruction of Historic Fort Steuben and Fort
Steuben Park is the beginning of a renaissance for the downtown area.
