Civil War Exhibit

February 2021 marks the 160th anniversary of the visit of President-Elect Abraham Lincoln to Steubenville as he was on his way to Washington D.C. for his inauguration as President of the United States. To mark the anniversary, Historic Fort Steuben will host an exhibit entitled The Ohio Valley and the Civil War which will open February 21 through March 20.


The exhibit will focus on the Civil War through objects and artifacts from the period. Objects including original Civil War letters, swords, firearms, uniforms, pictures, and personal items will be included. Additionally, text panels explaining the Civil War and its impact the Ohio Valley will be displayed along with the Historic Cannon donated to Steubenville’s Union Cemetery for the veterans’ section by Veterans of the Civil War.


The exhibit is free and open to the public, M-F, 10-4 or by appointment. Masks and social distancing are requested.
